Green stuff solves everything: more 40k

So

I've decided to really go for a chaos force that mixes thousand sons and alpha legion. As such I've began to convert, or kit bash, some models. Here are my WIPs. Given that I have a ton of Spaaaase Mareens as well it's likely that they will get bashed into raven guard or blood ravens at some point.

Okay not a kitbash but I love Ahriman, so yeah.

Kitbash of an Avatars of War priest, a chaos command sprue and Huron Blackheart's head.
And the rest of Huron blackheart and the command sprue

and the poorly painted work in progress Commander Lestrange. Really fiddly miniature and the head is not to the right scale, but it kinda worked.,

Just for reference that's what Huron Blackheart should look like. You can see which bits were taken and put where.

Squeek: skaven and others

So

Here's a very poor Rat Ogre and someone I like to refer to as 'the man who walks'.

I've got a lot of work that needs to be done on my skaven. Apart from that ill have some more time now that I'm switching jobs and getting out of law. So hopefully I can paint more.

The LAAAAAAW as Judge Rico would say.

One in the hand: Wood Elf Hero

So

Another WH mini, another attempt at NMM. I'm beginning to prefer white undercoat as I find black too dark as I tend to thin my paints and only do a couple of layers. The base is custom fantascape and I think adds a lot to the mini.

I've found that adding a hint of green to the face actually helps add definition and shading to seem more natural.

Sparky vampires, effervescent zombies

So

Reading the Von Carstein books as I am at the moment I felt the need to paint vampires..so I picked up Vlad Von Carstein. I also had the urge to try a bit of NMM or non metallic metals if you prefer. This is my first go at it and you can see that I've still a long way to go on this(and everything else)

Undercoat de jour, bit thick on the face but eh..whatyagonnadoeh?

Okay here's where things start getting tricky. Skin is Vallejo dead flesh..does what it says on the tin eh? now the bronze armour has been painted a very washed down mournfang brown by GW. NMM you get me?
Khorne red on the cloak, grey wash on the sword and pallid wych flesh on the face bring us a wee bit closer.
and the final coat. I used brown leather and then some off white with a sepia wash to 'try' for the NMM bronze. It's half way there i think, it all just looks a little flat. Nice base though huh?

there you go, a zombie. A Nazi Zombie in fact...happy now?

Welcome to my travails in painting

So here we go, my first paint based blog gets off to a start with a Raven Guard Chaplin. I consider this to be my best work so far...give or take.

I should say that I'm not the biggest fan of GW in terms of policy and prices but some of their miniatures are really quite lovely. On that note...
